Growth planning for service businesses
Growth planning turns a revenue goal for the year ahead into the specific numbers and actions needed to reach it: inquiries, close rates, sale values, team capacity and systems. It is a working plan with quarterly targets, not a long-range vision document.
- Revenue goal breakdown
- Funnel math from your history
- Capacity and hiring plan
- Marketing and budget plan
From a goal to the math behind it
Most growth goals are a single number. Growth planning breaks that number into its parts. How many new customers does it take? At what average sale value? How many inquiries does that require at your current close rate? How much capacity does the work need?
Once the math is visible, the plan becomes clear. Maybe the goal requires more inquiries. Maybe it requires a better close rate, a higher average sale, more repeat business or more capacity. Usually it is a combination.
Seeing the parts also shows which levers are cheapest to pull. Raising a close rate a little or bringing back lapsed customers often costs far less than buying the same revenue through new inquiries.
What the plan includes
The plan connects revenue to everything that drives it.
Each part of the plan has a measure and a responsible person, so progress can be tracked without guesswork and everyone knows which numbers they influence.
- Revenue goal broken down by service and quarter
- Required inquiries, close rates and sale values
- Retention and repeat business targets
- Capacity and hiring needs
- Marketing channels and budget
- Systems and process changes needed
- Quarterly milestones and measures
Grounded in your real numbers
We build the plan from your actual history: how many inquiries you get, how many close, what customers spend and how often they return. Where data is missing, we say so and plan how to start capturing it.
That makes the plan realistic. If a goal requires a close rate far above anything you have achieved, the plan shows it, and we look for a different path.
Working the plan
A plan is only useful if it is tracked. We set up measures in your reporting, review progress at agreed intervals and adjust when results differ from assumptions.
Growth plans often lead directly to work in other areas, such as marketing, automation or hiring, and we sequence that work so it supports the goal.
We also build in checkpoints for the assumptions that matter most. If inquiries or close rates come in well below the plan, the checkpoint triggers a decision about what to change rather than waiting until the end of the year.
