Web and mobile app development for service businesses

The short answer

Monvell builds web and mobile apps that a service business's customers use directly: booking, accounts, memberships, client portals and repeat orders. These are customer-facing products, distinct from internal tools built for your team.

At a glance
  • Requirements and user flow design
  • Interface design for phone and desktop
  • Web or mobile app build
  • Accounts, payments and notifications

When does a service business need its own app?

Most service businesses do not need a custom app. A good website, online booking and a platform client portal cover what most customers want. A custom app makes sense when customers interact with you often and the standard tools cannot deliver the experience you need.

Examples include a membership business where members book, track usage and manage billing, a studio with class packs and waitlists, a property company where residents submit and follow requests, or a firm whose clients need a custom view of their account.

What we build

We start with the smallest version that does the main job well.

We also decide early what the app will not do. Every feature adds screens to test, data to protect and code to maintain, so a focused first version that customers actually use is worth more than a long feature list that delays launch by months.

  • Progressive web apps that work in any browser and can be added to a home screen
  • Native-feeling mobile apps where device features matter
  • Customer accounts, logins and profiles
  • Booking, memberships, packages and subscriptions
  • Payments and stored cards
  • Notifications by push, text or email
  • Connection to your CRM, calendar and accounting tools

Web app or app store?

A web app runs in the browser, needs no download and updates instantly for everyone. An app store app can use more device features and lives on the home screen, but adds review processes, store fees and separate builds to maintain.

For many service businesses a web app is the better start. We recommend an app store version only when the experience clearly needs it.

How we keep the project on track

We define the core screens and user flows before writing code, build in short stages you can test, and put early versions in front of real customers. That catches problems while they are cheap to fix.

After launch, we host, monitor and maintain the app, fix issues and add features based on how customers use it.

We watch real usage closely in the first weeks. Where customers hesitate, drop off or contact your team for help, we simplify the flow before adding anything new.

Signs it is time to fix this

Customers ask for a way to manage their bookings, packages or memberships themselves.
Your team spends hours on requests customers could handle on their own.
Off-the-shelf booking tools cannot handle how you sell.
Competitors offer a smoother customer experience than you can.

Questions

Web and mobile apps: common questions.

All questions

It depends on the features, platforms and connections involved. We set the scope after the diagnosis, and we often recommend a smaller first version so you see value sooner.

If you go the app store route, usually yes. A web app covers both with one build, which is one reason we often start there.

Your business owns the app and its store accounts, and the code we write for you belongs to you under our agreement.
