Custom API integrations for service businesses

The short answer

Monvell writes custom API integrations: code that connects two or more systems directly when no ready-made connector exists or the available one does not do the job. This is development work, distinct from configuring the off-the-shelf integrations already built into the tools a business uses.

What is an API integration?

An API (application programming interface) is the way software lets other software read and write its data. Most business systems have one. A custom API integration is code we write that uses those interfaces to move data between systems on your terms: what moves, when, in what format and with what checks.

It is the next step when built-in connectors stop short. Maybe the connector only syncs some fields, runs once a day when you need it instantly, or does not exist at all for a specialized industry system.

Custom integrations are a bigger investment than turning on a connector, so we confirm that the value is there first. The usual signs are a lot of daily retyping between two important systems, errors caused by that retyping, or decisions that wait on data stuck in a system nobody can reach.

Typical integration projects

These usually involve a system that matters a lot to the business and does not play well with others.

  • Practice management or industry software connected to your CRM
  • Real-time sync between scheduling and billing systems
  • Lead feeds from partners or marketplaces into your pipeline
  • Data pulled from several systems into a reporting database
  • Two-way sync where both systems need to update each other
  • Webhooks that trigger actions the moment something changes

Built to fail safely

Integrations deal with things outside anyone's control: an API goes down, a rate limit is hit, a record arrives with missing data. We build in retries, logging and alerts, so a problem is caught and fixed rather than silently dropping data.

We also respect each system's rules and limits, use secure authentication, and store credentials properly.

Maintaining integrations

APIs change. Vendors release new versions and retire old ones, sometimes on short notice. We monitor every integration we build, watch vendor announcements and update the code before changes break it.

Every integration is documented: what it connects, what data moves and how to troubleshoot it.

Documentation matters more than it sounds. When something unusual happens, like a vendor outage or a record that will not sync, a clear explanation of how the integration works turns a long investigation into a short fix.

Signs it is time to fix this

Your industry software has no connector to the rest of your tools.
A built-in connector skips fields or syncs too slowly to be useful.
Staff copy data between two critical systems every day.
Reports need data that lives in systems that cannot talk to each other.

Questions

API integrations: common questions.

All questions

When no connector exists, when the connector cannot move the data you need, or when timing, volume or reliability requirements go beyond what it supports. We try standard integrations first under Platform.

Most modern business software does, though some limit access by plan level. Older or specialized systems may have limited options, which we check during the diagnosis.

We monitor the integrations we build and update the code when vendors change their APIs, ideally before the change takes effect.
